ArchiLiterature?

One may ask a banal question: what is architecture? And one, who may not be able to answer precisely, would think of its fragments. And story-telling, indeed, is a big fragment of architecture, a piece which gives direction and mediates between two worlds of reality and imagination, A feature which is partly originated in literature and partly in drawings.

Even if only imagination is considered as the measure of categorization, literature and architecture are still, standing on the same side. Invisible Cities, written by Italo Calvino, is only one example of such an effort which binds architecture and literature by using imagery. Drawing, on the other hand, is a descriptive tool for sharing fresh and complex ideas. As Jeffrey Kipnis put in Perfect Acts of Architecture, "...the architectural drawings end work can function in any three ways: as an innovative design tool, as the articulation of a new direction, or as a creation of consummate artistic merit. Put simply, a perfect act of architecture achieves all three at once." Correspondingly, the following series of practices can be called an imperfect act of architecture since almost no artistic act was done intentionally for producing of the drawings. In this series, story-telling in architecture is examined by means of Persian literature and the sequence is in fact, deriving abstract writings from the personal journal and representing those descriptive texts by using architectural drawing techniques.

The intention of these serial projects is to produce drawings based on the text, then detaching the literature from them to find their own meanings and in the end, comparing the result with the original text.

همواره ممکن است کسی این سوال مسخره را بپرسد که معماری چیست؟ و همواره ممکن است عده ای که قادر به پیدا کردن پاسخی مستقیم برای این سوال نیستند، اجزای تشکیل دهنده اش را تشریح کنند. به هر تقدیر روایتگری بخشی جدایی ناپذیر از معماری است، وسیله ای برای جهت دهی به ایده ها و واسطه ای میان دنیای واقعیت و تخیل؛ ویژگی ای که بخشی از ماهیتش را مدیون ادبیات است و بخشی را مدیون درائینگ.

حتی با این پیشفرض که فقط قوه تخیل و میزان بهره مندی از آن معیار دسته بندی قرار گیرد، کماکان معماری و ادبیات از اعضای یک خانواده محسوب می شوند.” شهر های ناپیدا“ی ایتالو کالوینو تنها یک نمونه از تلاشی است که معماری و ادبیات را درهم آمیخته است. در واقع این امکانات ادبی است که فرصت آشنایی با دنیای کالوینو را برای مخاطب فراهم می کند و به اون اجازه می دهد تا فضاها (شهرهای) سورئال و انتزاعی را توصیف نماید.

اهمیت رابطۀ میان معماری و ادبیات، دلیل اصلی شکل گیری مجموعۀ پیش روست. در واقع در این مجموعه تلاش بر این است تا رابطۀ میان ادبیات پارسی، درائینگ و معماری به چالش کشیده شود. برهمین اساس، روند پیشروی با انتخاب بخشهایی از روزنوشت های شخصی آغاز گردید و تصمیم بر این شد تا با توجه به محتوای انتزاعی متن ها و با کمک گرفتن از تکنیک های رایج درائینگ در معماری برای هر متن تصویری خلق شود. در این پروسه همواره تلاش بر این بوده تا در عین استقلال معنایی هر تصویر نسبت به متن مربوطه، خواندن متن اطلاعات بیشتری از آنچه به تصویر کشیده شده در اختیار قرار دهد.
